Growing up on a cattle ranch is a way of life that few can capture unless you have lived it. Maddy C. James captured that life beautifully in her latest book, Something in the Texas Sun. This book is a cross between Romeo and Juliet and Yellowstone. It is the perfect balance of romance and those cowboy ways.
When you first meet the female main character, Katie, she is a country girl trying to make it in the big city but gets called home for a family emergency where her past is there to haunt her. Her past being the devilishly handsome Nick! Nick is strong and brutish, but in all the best ways. He is also fighting his own demons from his past. Maddy brings these two characters to life through the daily workings on the Hennessy Ranch. I will be the first to admit I also love Nick! If you are a Yellowstone fan, he is a cross between Jimmy and Rip in all the perfect ways.
Something in the Texas Sun was one of the best cowboy reads I have read in years!
Maddy made me feel like I had taken a trip home to work on the ranch again. Those early mornings and long rides are where the memories are made. She brought us along with the memories in the making of Nick and Katie. The scenery, the characters, and the story were some of the best I have read in a modern cowboy novel! I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a swoon-worthy cowboy read!
